The South African Consul General, His Excellency Darkey Africa has promised to mobilize corporate citizens of South Africa to support the Legends of African Football Peace / Charity match scheduled to hold on April 8th and May 6th in Nigeria and South Africa respectively.

Speaking to members of the local organizing committee of the continental Soccer event led by Pastor Onyebuchi Abia during its courtesy call to the South African Embassy in Victoria Island, Lagos on Tuesday, Mr. Darkey Africa commended Nwankwo Kanu and the organizers for the initiative which according to him is coming at a time both countries and continent of Africa as a whole need to cement their  relationship by promoting Peace and foster Unity following the recent Xenophobia developments in South Africa.

He observed that the match which is also aimed at supporting the Kanu Heart Foundation and Nelson Mandela Foundation will be used by Soccer legends of South Africa and West African countries to make a statement on the need to be our brothers’ keepers.

Responding, the leader of the delegation Pastor Onyebuchi Abia which is also the LOC Secretary General in Nigeria thanked the Embassy for not just promising to mobilize corporate citizens of South Africa but has shown in concrete terms through its commitment that the Embassy is desirous to make the event a success.

Pastor Abia who gave the Consulate briefs on the activities of the LOC said three states namely Lagos, Rivers and Akwa Ibom are pushing to host the event which has been tagged the greatest continental assemblage of Soccer Legends.

Also presenting the list of African legends who have accepted to be part of this event which includes the likes of George Opong Weah, Didier Drogba, Eto, Lucas Radebe, Benny Mccarthy, Mark Fish, Dan Amokachi, Jay Jay Okocha, Garba Lawal, Michael Essien, Kanoute, Peter Ndlova, Tijani Babangida, Patrick Mboma, Ossei Kuffor and others. Pastor Abia assured the consulate of the readiness of Nwankwo Kanu to pilot this challenge.
